Yes, I actually got a full copy of the carving forums going back 10 years. Not sure about the legality of posting that info anywhere, but I'm happy to pass on the archive onto someone with a web site... All self-contained HTML files (one per thread) and related images.

Thanks Corey for setting this forum up! I'm bummed to see BOL disappear...

Yeah, don't post the Bomber content here. I'm not interested in getting caught in any legal cross-fire. Let everything play out, then we can decide what's best in the future.

The Bomber articles/tech content is absolutely owned by Bomber, so it can't be shared by us. Again, hopefully Bomber rises from the ashes and can share that again. If not, I'm sure there are enough passionate people to recreate similar content.

Im pissed. Businesses come and go for one reason or another, but the forums were a true encyclopedia of knowledge, something of a vault that encompassed a huge portion of alpine snowboarding's history. And considering the the death spiral of many online forums, specialized or not, the fact that the forum kept humming is something of an achievement in its own right.

I wish Jim and Angie had divested themselves from the forum and quickly transferred control, even temporary, to someone else the moment they thought there might complications, regardless of their veracity. If it was a financial matter in terms of server upkeep, or even buying and hosting the forums on a different domain, I would have gladly chipped in to cover the costs . It would have done a great service to the community and at least backed up the decades worth of information on there.

The ramifications can be huge, the Bomber name and forums had considerable recognition across the world, I met a lot of people through it, and for something like this to disappear overnight just before the start of the season is a serious blow to alpine snowboarding. My 2 cents.

I view BOL as a library who's doors are locked. The info is still there, just not accessible at this moment. No one took thermite to hard disks or anything.

Determining how the doors get unlocked again will take a while, I think mostly at the mercy of the courts.

Well, to my mind — we'd be better off with a forum that does not belong to or depend upon a single business. Oftentimes (for this or any other undertaking) forums seem to pop up in association with one vendor or another but that's not really ideal. If the business goes down, then so can the forum; also opinions that are not in the business's best interests end up going unexpressed.

To my mind, an independent forum (such as this one) is always going to be better, since it does not depend upon the success/solvency of any business; and because it isn't tied to a particular product, company or perspective. To my mind: it's more of a community when it isn't built upon or around a particular business.

I feel like I've seen forums that were created independently, but supported by a bunch of different competing businesses (with vendor-specific sub-forums). That model supports a broader diversity of opinions, and provides that the forum isn't subject to a single point of failure in terms of financial support etc ...

It would be great if this independent forum were to flourish. Perhaps some good can come of it.

I hit bomberonline once in a while to see what's going on. I noticed yesterday I could not reach the forums, then again today. I learned from extremecarving.com what happened to Bomber. It's awful.

Thanks Corey for making this forum. Hopefully everyone finds there way here.

I love seeing the alpine aficionados recoalesce here I love you
I loved bol but agree that the carving/hardboot community (and it's reserve of oldfart knowledge) is more important and permanent than the products that spawned it.

What about all of our hard-earned fake internet points? We also need to reinstate the ranking system. I think I was Alpine Carver Ne Plus Ultra, or something like that...

I can put the blame where it belongs. That's one of my super-powers.

I suppose you'd be content to dab the bike backward while mouthing nervous revs?

The BOL forum was more than an encyclopedia of knowledge, it was a way for all the alpine riders to connect. Although I am sure the facebook forum has it's place, BOL was simple and didn't have the noise.

Without BOL, my son would not be where he is today as a hardboot racer. Hopefully, maybe this will take over, or some other place? Besides, the classified was my home.

And generally off-roading at the same time, as I recall.

Umm, I'm gonna +1 the current font size. Also how do you quote other posts in this forum?

You can always do this:
(quote) copy/paste (/quote)
But replace the brackets with angular ones: [ ]
